We enjoyed the great food!! Yum yum yum!

Yesterday first time try Manhanttan Fish Market (MFM) food at Iluma. The experience is quite bad. The fish is quite oily, the calamari is salty and the lemon tea is too sweet… only the soup of the day cream of mushroom tastes not bad. I don’t feel like going back to eat. Look at the leftover… a waste of food.. but it’s quite filling.. don’t know is it the combination of the oily fish, salty calamari and sweet lemon tea.

If you are shopping in Bugis Junction (BJ), crowded with people, and you are tired of eating fast food for lunch… we found this place that serves “food-court style” food and comparable price to food court. There is no service charge unlike eating in restaurants. In my opinion, the price is cheaper than the food court in BJ. Hahaha. Anyway talk about the food, the kway teow not bad. The chicken wing is nice but common. Haha. Fried rice is not fantastic. But overall still ok.

I saw the advertisement on tv programme, 肥超人 recommendation. My first visit last week. Read from some websites, it’s better to patronize the main shop at Far East Plaza. Not sure about it because I never went there. Anyway I went there at 3.30pm and they really cook on the spot. I wonder how they are going to handle if there are more customers.

I ordered…
- Egg wrapped carrot cake (photos to be posted when I collect my new laptop), $3.50
- Superwings, $4.50
- Super Kung-fu iced milk tea, $1.90

There is another carrot cake called pan fried carrot cake… which sounds common to me, so I ordered egg wrapped carrot cake. My personal opinion is… it looks rather easy to “copy” and the taste is not special enough to melt me. The carrot cake contains lap cheong 腊肠 and together wrapped with pan fried egg and sprinkled with chicken floss, served on a (recyclable) paper plate. Oh yes, quite a small serving, it’s indeed a snack!

Superwings consist of 3 chicken wings roasted with honey and margarine (my taste bud tells me so, might be wrong)… tasty! hot (hold it with care)! need to wait for them to roast on the spot. I wish they provide lemon or lime to enhance the taste. Consider $1.50 for each chicken wing, it’s not cheap but a standard price I see nowadays.

The iced milk tea has a funny name 功夫奶茶 with cartoony Bruce Lee featured on the menu poster. It’s their most popular drink when I went there. Almost every customers ordered this. Hahaha. It’s different from sweetened ceylon tea with milk. Not sure how they balance the quantity of milk and sugar. I personally love it! Reminds me of bubble milk tea at Taiwan.

The decor of the shop is rather different from cafes in Hong Kong. This shop is towards modern and retro themed with orange and white colours, quite relaxing to the eyes. Anyway it’s better to patronize the shop not too early as they might not be ready with the food preparation.

Snaking queues at this food stall would be a very prominent sight when you look around the entire hawker. What’s nice with this yong tau foo despite the at-least-10-minutes-wait?? Good food, of course! Considerably cheap could be the reason too. I bought mine, selected 8 items with my bee hoon soup (not laksa) at $4… (second visit during noon time price change a lot -__-) Who knows they might change their price. Anyway, something to compliment the yong tau foo is the soup base with lots of soybeans or soya beans and IKAN BILIS. Cool! And the best thing is other than common items we normally see, they have fried tempura and fried money bag (just in case you don’t know what I mean, I attached the photo to this post). The thoughtful stall owners specifically separate fried items on another bowl if you order any, afraid that they would not taste good in soupy noodles. Nice right?

Price ranged from $8 onwards. I believe it’s better to look at the menu yourself and state the size or price you are ordering.

What we ordered were sweet and sour chicken, small plate from $8. Tender and easy to bite, highly recommended by my mum. We also had a HongKong style steamed sea bass which is higher in price, $20. And a side dish, sambal kang kong which is $8 too, overpriced in my opinion.

Though I didn’t get to try the pineapple rice, it seemed to me that it’s nice because the people around us ordered pineapple rice and finished it all. Oh yes, waiting time is around 10 minutes, just nice for my “window shopping tour”.

Our total cost: $42 after adding 3 drinks ($1.50 each), 3 rice (50cents each), no service charge.

Just an advice: Avoid going to the toilets at the basement, it’s very abandoned and badly maintained. Perhaps you can go to the other buildings.

Before I end this post, this complex has mainly Thai tenants selling supermart raw food, beer, handphones and etc… it’s rather different from Suntec, Vivocity… shopping centres. Experience it once in a while, feel different, haha..

Used this photo (their tissue) instead because my photo of the turtle soup might throw away your appetite. My dad ordered 2 bowls of rice (80 cents each), 1 sambal kangkong ($8), 1 iced chrysanthemum luohan drink ($1.20), 1 iced barley drink ($1.50) and each towel napkins on the table add on 30 cents. Totaled $42.90, no service charge.

Because turtle is rare as compared to the common types of fishes, my advice is not to waste the food if you have already ordered. Drink every drop of soup like I do. Besides that, this herbal soup restaurant also has crocodile soup. I haven’t tried the crocodile soup in this restaurant but I tried before somewhere else. Somehow the meat texture tastes like black chicken but the skin tastes different. It’s hard to distinguish actually especially when the soup base all contained the same kind of herbs and spices.

What’s nice? For ladies, I suggest, try the mixed berries known as Mix Berry Marriage… Feel pampered with the name already. How’s the taste? It’s a little sour, a little sweet, really taste like yoghurt!! Yum yum!! Price from $4.90 onwards. Add toppings more $. Their waffles is ex$ but looks tasty… ~.~

Opens Mondays to Sundays. From 4pm till finished. Probably ends at 7pm. Depends.

Can you guess the price of this steamboat?

$5 for a plate of food, a bowl of rice and a personal steamboat pot. It’s the cheapest ever I’ve seen in Sg. Note: it’s not buffet. And it’s a bit inconvenient to go back to the stall and ask the person to re-light the flame when it goes off after 20 mins or so. But the price is considered affordable for students during an occasion or celebration.
